 Originally comprising producer duo Pete Devereux and Mark Hill, the name Artful Dodger is already established as the most commercially successful UK Garage act to have emerged from the scene to date. The original duo produced a slew of chart topping hits including ‘Re-Rewind’ and ‘Woman Trouble’ and floor filling remixes that confirmed Artful Dodger’s place as a premier production act. Since the departure of Mark Hill, Pete Devereux is now joined by fellow producer and DJ Dave Low, and Artful Dodger are now storming the urban music scene once again, with a fresh new sound. As Dave reveals: “It’s a whole new Artful Dodger so we thought we’d take it back to the roots level. Back to the streets were it all began.”
Their idea now is to present Artful Dodger as an ‘urban showcase’ act, rather than a mere production outfit. Additional members, Mr Buzzhard, host - and Sherman, vocalist – complete the live Artful Dodger act, offering much more than the standard DJ / MC combination. In the studio however, Artful Dodger are also keen to collaborate with a wide variety of artists. Their recent smash club track ‘Ruffneck Sound’ featured the vocals of Sevi G and Richie Dan, but they have also been working with other artists such as Killa Kella, Bizzy, girl group Krome Angelz and former Five member, Sean Conlan. The full range of their collaborations will be heard on the Artful Dodger album, which is out NOW.
Whilst the original mix of ‘Ruffneck Sound’ proved a big hit on the floors and airwaves through its release on Public Demand, Artful Dodger’s new ‘Basement Mix’ has given fresh new life to the track and has created a huge buzz. ‘Basement’ is a new urban sound that Artful Dodger are pioneering and championing, and this exciting, vocal-based hybrid of R&B beats and uptempo garage sounds is set to be big news in 2004. Artful Dodger come correct with there new single “Got What Ya Want” along side the multi talented beat boxer Killa Kella and feat Richie Dan. This track is totally original with all the beatz and effects done by Kella with his mouth anlong side Artful Dodgers classy production.
With other new tracks such as ‘Ladies’ (featuring jungle legend General Levy & Roachie) and ‘Bodyguard’, Artful Dodger’s new line-up and ever-inventive sound is sure to keep them at the leading edge of future urban music.
